The secrets to becoming a morning person

We often hear that there are two kinds of people, morning people, and night people. Really though, this is just what we have become accustomed to in our habits. You may be able to stay up until 2 a.m. full of energy, while your friend can barely keep his eyes open at 8 p.m. When the morning comes, the reverse is true. Your friend is wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, while you feel ready to be a zombie in a Romero movie. It is really not hard to change into being a night person or morning person, you just need to learn a new set of habits. Here are some things you can do to start the process.

Sleep

Okay, that seems pretty obvious, get more sleep. If you want to start getting up early in the morning, start going to bed earlier at night. Although this may be difficult in the beginning, if you change your habit until it’s comfortable, it will get you there. Our advice would be to go to bed a little bit earlier every night for a few weeks until you reach the time that is right for you. Please make sure you get at least 8 hours sleep though. If you get less than 8 hours sleep it will catch up to you and turn you into a zombie eventually anyway.

Sleep rhythm

Everyone has a different set of rhythms to their biological clock. This is called your circadian rhythm. If you experiment on certain times to go to sleep, you will find that you are awake at different times in the morning. We don’t just mean just wake up, but we mean awake as in ready to get up and not sleepy at all. Very often when we go on vacation, we are not forcing ourselves to get up at a certain time, we wake up in the morning full of energy. When you learn the right time to go to sleep with your circadian rhythm, you will learn the right time for you to wake up. Do not force yourself with an alarm clock; force yourself by going to bed at the correct time.

Morning routine

One of the most important ways to become a morning person is to design a morning routine. There are whole books written on the subject of a morning routine. Some of the most successful people in the world have very strict morning routines that they do every single morning. It becomes much easier to get up when you know exactly what you’re going to do when you get up. Whether it be exercise, make breakfast, or just check emails, all that matters is you make a routine that you follow every day. Just get out of bed to start it and don’t lay there.

Sunlight

Leave the curtains open or put sheer curtains up that will let the light through. Sunlight will help you wake up. Assuming you have had your full 8 hours sleep, sunlight will let you know that the day has started and wake you up. As obvious as it sounds light wakes you up, darkness makes you sleepy.

The desire to become a morning person is really all you need. Follow these simple rules and you will find it is much easier than you think. Find your circadian rhythm for sleep, and you will find you can change your life in so many different ways. Say hello to the sunrise for us.
